The Yashica Electro 35 GTN from 1973 was the last in the series of Yashica’s full-size, fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder cameras. Like its predecessors, it has a fast Yashinon DX 1:1.7 f=45mm lens, Copal leaf shutter, X-flash synchronization socket, self-timer, and coupled CdS meter for aperture-priority auto-exposure.
Set the f-stop (from 1.7 to 16), and the electronically controlled stepless shutter sets the appropriate shutter speed. Depress the shutter-release part way, and lights on the camera top (which are also visible in the viewfinder) will warn of shutter speeds slower than 1/30 (orange) or faster than 1/500 (red). If the lights flash only momentarily, the shutter-speed falls within that range. The continuous reading CdS cell and electronic circuitry are capable of precisely timed exposures from 1/500 of a second to 30 seconds or longer.
The viewfinder is tinted blue for better contrast with the rangefinder spot and framelines, and the framelines automatically adjust for parallax.
The GTN means that the electrical contacts are gold-plated to resist corrosion, and that it is the black version with flash hot shoe and film-speed settings from ASA 25 to 1000. The battery check lights up the frame counter. This model was made after Yashica moved assembly to Hong Kong.
Wide-angle and telephoto auxiliary lenses are available in a set by Suntar elsewhere on this site.
Included
Battery adapter
UV filter
Yashica vinyl ever-ready case
Operating Condition
Focusing is smooth, the lens and viewfinder are clear, the rangefinder is accurate, and the rangefinder spot is bright. The clunk heard on the winding stroke is normal for these cameras.
Cosmetic Condition
Few signs of use; the top and bottom covers have lost some gloss, and the battery cover is slightly marred. The ever-ready case is lightly worn on the back.
