Shop Notes

The July 2026 service provides a meaningful advantage over an AE-1 with unknown maintenance history. The dent on the bottom plate is visible but does not materially detract from the camera’s otherwise clean presentation.

Detailed Description

Introduced in 1976, the Canon AE-1 combines manual focus with shutter-priority automatic exposure. The photographer selects the shutter speed, and the camera’s metering system indicates and controls the appropriate lens aperture. Full manual exposure is also available.

The included Canon New FD 50mm f/1.8 is a compact standard lens suited to general photography, portraits, available-light work and learning manual focus. Its FD bayonet mount provides direct coupling with the AE-1’s metering and automatic-exposure system.

This example received a complete clean, lubricate and adjust service from Douglas Banks Photographic Equipment Repair in July 2026. Cosmetically, it is rated Excellent+ apart from a dent on the bottom plate caused by previous tripod mounting. A lens cap, battery and strap are included.
