The revolutionary series of Yashica Electro 35 rangefinder cameras, which combined for the first time an electronically controlled shutter with automatic aperture-priority exposure, began in 1966 with this model. Like all of its successors, this first Electro 35 is a full-size, fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder camera with a fast Yashinon-DX 1:1.7 f=45mm lens, Copal Elec leaf shutter, X-flash synchronization socket, self-timer, and coupled CdS meter for aperture-priority auto-exposure. Set the f-stop (from 1.7 to 16), and the electronically controlled stepless shutter sets the appropriate shutter speed. Depress the shutter-release part way, and lights on the camera top (which are also visible in the viewfinder) will warn of shutter speeds slower than 1/30 (orange) or faster than 1/500 (red). If the lights flash only momentarily, the shutter-speed falls within that range. The continuous reading CdS cell and electronic circuitry are capable of precise exposures from 1/500 of a second to 30 seconds or longer. The viewfinder is tinted blue for better contrast with the rangefinder spot and framelines, and the framelines automatically adjust for parallax. This particular camera is the original Electro 35, with film-speed settings from ASA 10 to 400 and an indented base plate and back that opens with a sliding catch at the bottom.

Operating Condition: Focusing is smooth, the lens and viewfinder are clear, the rangefinder is accurate, and the rangefinder spot is bright. The clunk heard on the winding stroke is normal for these cameras.
Cosmetic Condition: Used Near Mint: Almost no signs of use; there is spot of corrosion on the winding lever. The lens cap has a nick and a scuff at the edge.
